Extern 3D Game Design Externship

Prototype 1

This During this process, I had a few ideas that I wished to take the Goldberg Machine. One idea is to have the orange start off on an incline plane to hit the wheel and axel. But I dropped that in favor of a start with a screw which used a ramp.

Prototype 2

Before and after the second prototype, I had a few problems, mainly the domino chain reaction and the pulley cause and effect. For the dominoes, it was a struggle since each small edit to the chain caused the dominoes to fail in reacting properly; it would end up being disrupted by bad placement either from the domino chain or from the previous reaction, and fail to keep the machine going. For the pulley, the difficulty was a good cause and effect as I tried to use books and a large domino which failed and resulted in me to use oranges.

Initial Completion

The inital completion had almost everything ready but it ran into 2 problems, the first is the toaster aim and the second is the target itself. For the second problem, it was more about how I wanted the machine to come to and end, so I experimented with what can work and chose to use a watermelon as the target. For the first problem, it was triangulating what angle would the toaster fire at to hit the watermelon, so I did some testing and eventually found a sweet spot of good aim with good target placment.

Final Result

When I looked back on this project, it was a starting point for me in level design. Not because of the Engine I made the machine in but rather the problem solving I had to do in order to get the machine to function to it's fullest I could do.
